The Poacher’s Son by Paul Doiron

If you like the author C.J. Box, then you will like Paul Doiron. In The Poacher’s Son”, Maine game warden Mike Bowditch risks his job and his life trying to prove his father Jack is innocent of murder. Jack Bowditch is a rough and tumble drunk who likes to get into bar fights but that doesn’t mean he would kill anyone and he tells Mike that he is being set up. Despite the fact that Jack has shown zero interest in Mike his entire life, Mike is one of those people who will go all out for blood relatives and he refuses to believe that his dad is capable of a double murder (complicating matters is the fact that one of the dead men is a police officer). Jack doesn’t make anything easier by escaping custody, assaulting an officer, and going on the run. This is supposed to be the first in a series featuring Mike the game warden and hopefully the following books will be as strong as this one is.
