The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore by William Joyce
I’ve followed William Joyce’s endeavors since he first broke into print with George Shrinks. He is the cofounder of Moonbot Media, an animation and storytelling collective in Shrevesport, Louisiana and The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore first appeared as a groundbreaking story app and then as the 2011 academy award winning short film by the same name. The jacket flap tells us that Joyce has been working on this title since 1999 and it’s a tribute to Bill Morris, a pioneer in library promotions. It’s a great testament to the power of reading and Joe Bluhm’s illustrations mark an exciting picture book debut. I can envision so many applications for this picture book beyond reading to young children. It can be used in conjunction with Katrina stories and with young people interested in media or writing.
