Animal rescue groups probably wish they could clone mystery author David Rosenfelt and his wife Debbie-I know I do. Rosenfelt was never around dogs much until he met Debbie ad got to know her golden retriever, Tara. When Tara dies, David wants to get another dog immediately but Debbie is unsure. They compromise by volunteering at animal shelters and have their eyes opened to the bad situations that exist in many of them so they decide to start their own rescue group. Their mission is to take on older dogs, especially goldens, and dogs with health problems because these dogs don’t stand a chance in regular shelters. David and Debbie adopt out many of their rescues to good people but inevitably end up with lots of dogs themselves. Dogtripping: 25 Rescues, 11 Volunteers, and 3 RVs is about their move from California to Maine after Debbie retires from her job and they can finally live where they want to. Interspersed with the chapters on the trip itself are chapters describing how they came to adopt particular dogs. A pleasant and funny read.
