Annual Appeal

If you are new to our annual appeal, the library foundation organizes a once-a-year request for individual and corporate gifts. The process starts by determining a critical need. The 2013 goal is to purchase approximately 30 public e-readers to lend. TCPL staff will load them with favorite fiction genres or designated nonfiction topics. Our research indicates these devices are particularly useful for people with vision or mobility issues. They offer text enlargement options, a variety of screen choices, and settings for outdoor reading. Although an e-reader weighs only 7.5 ounces, it can hold the equivalent of 825 pounds of reading. Each device includes a protective cover, contains approximately 20 books, and costs $360.

With your generous gift, any TCPL cardholder can “test drive” a pre-loaded e-reader. Cardholders who later purchase their own devices, may return to TCPL and check out free items from our generous collection of downloadables.

About Us

The Tippecanoe County Public Library Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We oversee an endowment fund, mostly gifts and grants from loyal library supporters. Our library operates through public support, but we also rely upon private support and donations.  Gifts to the Foundation provide the independent financial resources we need to ensure a strong, stable library system - now and for future generations.

Making a Gift

Making gifts to the library system is a tangible way to show appreciation for the materials, programs and services you have enjoyed over the years - and to see that they continue. Gifts to the Foundation are tax deductible. Your attorney, tax advisor or financial planner can explain how making a gift to our endowment fund can benefit you and the library.
 

Kroger Check

In his statement at the presentation of the check, Kroger Central Division Affairs Manager John Elliott said, in part: 

“We are determined to have a strong, positive and measurable impact on core skills such as reading, math and science. We also intend to strengthen our local school and library partnerships in as many communities as possible. Kroger looks forward to the catalytic impact of this investment in Lafayette’s ‘Technology Commons’ and celebrating the academic, workforce, health and wellness success of student of all ages.”

Tipmont REMC Operation Round Up Trust provides support for the hardware purchases of the 4-station language-learning lab that will be part of the Technology Commons. This $2,500 check will assist in the development of a flexible, technology-rich center for learning, research, training, collaboration and content production in TCPL’s downtown library.


 
Campus

The most heavily used area of any library system is its main youth room, and that's certainly true for the Tippecanoe County Public Library system. In 2008, a  $136,000 renovation replaced 20-year old carpeting, refurbished restrooms, relocated and  expanded the preschool area, increased space for library collections, provided additional computer stations  and replaced or refurbished aging and damaged furnishings.

Donors to the Youth Room renovation provided a significant portion of the funding.

Grants:


  • The Alfred J. and Dorothy N.  McAllister Foundation contributed $18,750 to the project.
  • The Community Foundation of Greater Lafayette provided over $7,000 for the purchase of a Learning Concepts Wall and a Wave Bench.
  • Grants were also received from Tipmont REMC Operation Round Up, Wal-Mart, the West Central Dental Association, the estate of Walter Miehr, and the Scheumann Foundation.
 
Campus

The Klondike Branch of the Tippecanoe County Public Library system opened to the public on June 10, 2007. The total cost for the project was $3,300,000 with 320 donors contributing $116,162.


 

The downtown library opened in 1989.  A 2005 renovation included:  a consolidated media room for all audio visual materials, refurbished restrooms, a new computer lab, expanded meeting room space, and a new conference room.  Also, shelving for library materials increased and service desks were built and re-located.  Behind the scenes, several offices were constructed, compact shelving was purchased for storage of materials and a better workspace was provided for the Friends of the Library.

“The $750,000 renovation was accomplished with carefully stewarded tax funding and without an additional tax levy,” stated Library Board Facilities chair, Jerry Withered.  “Grants from two local organizations, assisted in putting the finishing touches on our renovation,” he noted.  A $75,000 grant from the Alfred N. and Dorothy M. McAllister Foundation assisted in the expansion of the meeting rooms.  A $50,000 gift from the Friends of the Library was earmarked towards the new conference room.
