Celebrate National Poetry Month with us at these library events. Enjoy guest speakers, get writing advice, and read your creations with fellow poets at an open mic night.

2014 Looseleaf Workshops: Poetry

April 30: Revision Workshop
Purdue Sycamore Review representatives lead three poetry writing workshops. Read and discuss favorite poems and poets for each topic. Write poems. Use the Story Workshop Method of John Schultz to revise poems.

Poet Marianne Boruch

Book Sale & Signing
In addition to poetry, essays, and a memoir, this
award-winning poet recently completed Cadaver, Speak. Hear Boruch read poetry and learn about her class at I.U. Medical School’s gross anatomy lab. Boruch teaches poetry at Purdue and national literary conferences. Honors for this Chicago native include fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.

US Poet Laureates

The US Poet Laureate is appointed by the Librarian of Congress to a one-year term. They promote reading, writing, and appreciating poetry throughout the country. The current laureate is Natasha Tretheway.

Indiana Poet Laureates

Every two years, the Indiana Arts Commission appoints Hoosier writer as the state poet laureate. The current laureate is George Kalamaras.
